Spring in Portland is a wonderful time of year to teach botany as there are many flowering trees in bloom. Additionally, in late April and early May many of the ferns, herbs and perennials are emerging, making for fantastic phenomenological discovery. The Portland Waldorf School seeks an experienced, Full-Time Science, Math and Outdoor Education teacher to finish out the 2011-2012 school year and to continue on as a full-time, permanent employee. Teaching duties for the remainder of 2011-2012 include Main Lesson Blocks in Botany (11th grade) and Trigonometry (10th grade) as well as a 10th grade Geometry track class. An ideal candidate would also have experience leading and coordinating outdoor education and wilderness trips for adolescents.
For 2012-2013 and beyond, this position has a mix of teaching duties including an advanced 12th grade science elective, main lesson blocks in life, earth and physical sciences and math track classes. An ideal candidate would also be able to lead and coordinate an established and growing outdoor education program for grades 9-12.
