A Classical and
Contemporary Education

We are a leader in educational achievement from early childhood through high school.

Portland Waldorf School stands out in the Northwest as the most complete, stable and experienced Waldorf school serving K-12 education.  For over thirty years, it has served thousands of students and families by meeting the needs of each age with an inviting and challenging curriculum.  Its graduates have become doctors, high-tech entrepreneurs, teachers, artists and therapists often sought by select liberal arts colleges for further study.

In early childhood, PWS provides a beautiful environment in both the classroom and the seven-acre park-like setting with tall trees and two streams.  Many of the master teachers in the young grades train other teachers and present lectures and workshops for other educators.  The young child is held in reverence with a daily experience of older students from seven to eighteen as well as being surrounded by loving adults.

In grade school, the class teacher carries students through all eight grades, developing a close relationship with not only each child but the class as a social organism.  As the students develop, their education is enriched by specialty teachers in Spanish and German, vocal and instrumental music, physical education, handwork, and eurythmy.  Each age in the grade school is taught from a curriculum that meets the inner soul and temperament of the child.  Students learn in a social context not only of their own class but older high school students and younger kindergarten ones.

In high school (and PWS is the only whole Waldorf school in the Portland area), students meet expert teachers in humanities, the sciences and the arts.  While working through the ardors of adolescence, students find a love for truth as well as for the community of students both of their age and in earlier developmental stages.  They become sought-after college students, award-winning musicians, budding scientists, and outdoorsmen caring for the environment and the community of families that have supported their blossoming.

Portland Waldorf School does not discriminate on the basis of: race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, sexual orientation, gender identity, status as a parent, marital status or political affiliation.
