Program elements

Inside Play

Play is the essence of childhood that we wish to nurture, respect, and protect. Children’s play with natural materials evolves into the adult’s power of imagination and the intelligence of “head, heart, and hand.”

Circle/Story

Circle and weekly eurythmy class support the development of fine and gross motor movement. Stories and puppet plays include nature stories, sequential stories and fairy tales for the very young child.

Outside Play

In the Walnut Hill play yard, sand, mud, clay, garden plantings, and trees give the children opportunity to interact with the elemental world. Play equipment such as swings, hand-over-hand bars, a slide, and a climbing structure encourage large motor activities.

Social Interactions and Guidance

3-4 year-olds are discovering the feeling of self, while at the same time finding their way with others. Consistent nurturing rhythms and a simple ordered environment are the foundations of guidance. Children who are able to predict the sequence of events in their day are more apt to settle into harmonious play together.
