Become part of a wonderful community dedicated to the well-being of children and families. Most parents, grandparents, and friends find volunteering a rich and rewarding experience. Your involvement also helps keep tuition costs down and helps the school make the best of all of our resources. While no one can do everything there is something for everyone at PWS. Below is a list of a few ways to connect and contribute as well as a pamphlet of class responsibilities.

Volunteer tracking and evaluation form

Use this easy form to enter your volunteer hours. It allows for better planning and use of your time, provides information for grant proposals, and helps us recognize and appreciate you!

Seasonal Work Parties

Our beautiful 72-year old building and our 7 acres require time and care to maintain. Spring, summer and fall seasons bring different opportunities to spruce up! The days usually start around 9:00 am, break for a delicious complimentary lunch, and pick up again until 3:00 pm. Childcare is usually provided and we encourage one and all to spend at least part of the day. It’s a great way to meet fellow parents and make a visible impact on our children’s environment. Contact our Facilities Manager at brendan.eiswerth(a)portlandwaldorfschool.org to learn what’s on our list of to-do’s or for more details on the next event.

Spring Auction Benefit

In addition to a great night out for parents and friends, we raise significant funds to support our operating budget and special scholarship assistance to families at our annual gala auction benefit. The volunteer-driven event features dynamic silent and live auctions with plenty of surprises. Volunteers assist with acquiring or creating auction items for bidding, securing sponsorships and ads, and handling event logistics.

Festivals

Seasonal festivals connect us as a community and to the rhythm of the earth. All school fairs that are volunteer and parent driven:

  • Harvest Festival (October),
  • Heart of Advent (a November crafting fair)
  • May Faire (first Saturday in May)

Class oriented festivals:

  • Michaelmas pageant (September)
  • Lantern Walk (at Martinmas in November)
  • Santa Lucia (December)
  • Spiral of Lights (December)

Office Support and the Store

Volunteers help in myriad tasks like supporting the store card program, covering phones, and preparing all-school mailings – call the office at 503-654-2200 to find out how you can help! The Spring Creek Store hosts creative classes and other lovely social events. Email store(a)portlandwaldorfschool.org for ways to get involved!

Library

Re-shelving, repairing books and supporting the annual used book sale depend on volunteers. Call 503-654-2200 x219 for hours and tasks.

The healthy social life is found when, in the mirror of each human soul, the whole community finds its reflection and when, in the community, the virtue of each one is living. -Rudolf Steiner
